today announced the renaming of its Broadband & Telephone Services business to Telemedia Services. This strategic name change is in line with Bharti Airtel's growing focus on new media solutions and its foray into IPTV and DTH businesses. With the world increasingly moving towards convergence with an amalgamation of voice, data and video, it provides an immense opportunity for Bharti Airtel to further reinforce its undisputed position as India's largest integrated telecom services provider.
Already having established successful business models for its mobile and broadband businesses, Bharti Airtel now intends to harness the convergence environment by introducing media solutions to its over 50 million customers. The DTH business and SMB Vertical along with the mainstream Broadband and Voice Business would now form the clear thrust areas for Telemedia Services.
Manoj Kohli, CEO & President, Bharti Airtel said, "The change of name is in line with our strategic intent to change the face of this business with the advent of media and SMB solutions. This also ties in with our vision of being the most admired brand, loved by our customers as we continue on the path of delighting them by providing a complete bouquet of world class products and services of the converged world. I expect the new initiatives to significantly enhance the momentum of our break-free growth."
"This year promises to be an exhilarating journey for Telemedia Services. While we are committed to lead the broadband revolution in the country, our focus is also on new opportunities such as IPTV & DTH which would provide media solutions to our class and mass customers, while our SMB will provide us with another opportunity to leverage our integrated play and offer a one-face to customer. The media sector should prove to be a significant growth engine for us in future, said, Atul Bindal, President - Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel Limited.
With the advent of the new company, Bharti Airtel is perfectly poised to play on all the three screens - mobile, PC and TV. While Bharti Airtel is a market leader in mobile services and has shown positive growth in the broadband segment, the soon-to-be launched IPTV & DTH initiatives will help the organization fortify its offerings in the infotainment domain and will add tremendously to its existing bouquet of integrated telecom offerings.
The creation of Telemedia Services will support Bharti Airtel's transition towards high customer-focus by its alignment along product, customer and functional verticals. This step would also ensure that while the organization leverages the strength of One Airtel, at the same time it builds strength in its operating businesses and continues to offer world class services to its customers.
