India’s Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has selected the Tekelec EAGLE 5 Integrated Signaling System to support its transition to next-generation networks, Tekelec said Thursday.
BSNL, India's largest telecommunications company with more than 40 million wireline and 30 million wireless subscribers, is extending an existing relationship with Tekelec for traditional SS7 platforms, which began in 2005.
The Tekelec platform will provide BSNL with a separate signaling plane that utilizes IP-based connectivity and centralized control and routing to connect its signaling end points. The platform gives BSNL a homogeneous SS7 core network and supports applications such as number portability, integrated monitoring and routing optimization for home local registers and voice mail servers.
The project will expand the existing deployment of 10 EAGLE 5 ISS nodes and adds an additional 14 nodes.
Tekelec local reseller ITI Ltd. will be in charge of the project implementation.
