ERODE: More than 200 persons are in the waiting list for broadband service in Erode and the connections would be given by month-end, the General Manager, Telecom, BSNL, Erode (in charge), T. Natarajan, has said.
Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, he said that in the first phase, 96 connections would be given.
Of this, 48 would be for Erode town and 24 each for Veerappanchatram and Surampatty. In the next phase, 64 connections each would be given in Bhavani and Gobichettipalayam and 240 connections in Erode.
He said that 1000-line Cordless Digitally Enhanced Cordless Telephones (Cordect) (WLL phones) would be given in Sathyamangalam area. Further, 750-line WLL phones would be given in Erode, Bhavani, Perundurai, Kangeyam, Kodumudi, Dharapuram and Moolanure areas.
After installation of WLL phones, the subscribers would be sent monthly bills. He also added that to improve the cellular service, 72 more cell towers would be installed during the current year in Erode district. He said that at the national level, the demand for cellular service was on the increase and in fact, the cellular service connections had crossed the landline connections. Out of 10 crore connections in India, 5.50 crore were mobile service and 4.5 crore landlines.
Natarajan said that arrangements were made for remittance of bill amount for post-paid mobile subscribers in the head post offices in Erode, Bhavani, Gobichettipalayam and Dharapuram.
He said that the Erode Telecom (BSNL) had been adjudged as the Best Maintained Telecom. This was due to the efforts taken by all the employees of the department, he added.
